Kountze Middle School and Kountze Independent School District appreciate the sacrifices of our Nation’s heroes and what they mean to the freedoms we all enjoy in our great country. Our veterans proudly served, many times placing themselves in harm’s way and some giving the ultimate sacrifice for us to live the American dream. These patriots faced severe obstacles and circumstances, yet it was their strength through very uncertain times that have allowed us to enjoy freedom. It was the Veterans' sense of pride and patriotism that allowed our fine heroes to stand in front of the flag and defend these United States. As we continually see the foes of liberty emerge, it requires our Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) to engage and protect the Constitution of the United States. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1919, to display and show solemn pride in the heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice. In 1954, the name changed to “Veterans Day” to honor all that have served in our Armed Forces. Please join Kountze Middle School in welcoming “The Wall That Heals” to our district from Nov. 7 at 4:00 pm through Nov. 11 at 2:00 pm.

Here is a brochure with more information about The Wall

Ranger Max Earns Prestigious Award

From Cathy Johnston:

With pride I commend Max Harper, one of my former students and a Kountze High School graduate. I remember him as a good student and a drummer.  I have watched him over the years.  I know drummers are often unique- marching to a different beat and choosing unusual paths. For Max, the paths have been long, literally, hundreds and hundreds of miles

For the past nine years Max has been employed with the National Park Service as a Big Thicket National Preserve ranger.  He leads guided hikes for school children and the public and regularly shares his love of Big Thicket wonders, a place he calls home.  He works as an interpreter and guides trips on both land and water.  He even developed the preserve’s kayak and canoe recreation program and leads training sessions on safe boating.

On Saturday, October 13th, Max Harper was awarded the Big Thicket Association’s Thomas Lubbert Superior Achievement Award.  The award is named for Thomas Lubbert, the Preserve’s  first superintendent from 1974-1986.  The award honors Preserve employees for outstanding performance and significant contributions to the Preserve.

Max has matured into an outstanding role model and is now an inspiring naturalist.  The Big Thicket’s marvelous treasures are often unrecognized.  Max’s message is not off beat.  His timing as an environmental educator is just right.maxharper

Kountze High School was awarded a financial gift as a part of the Education First FCU “Pay it Forward” program along with some other schools in our area.  Check out the video.  We would like to thank Education First FCU for their continued support of education and our children.

We are extremely proud of our schools and their continued commitment to high academic standards and improved student achievement. All schools have a comprehensive instructional program with opportunities for every student at every ability level.  Year after year, our students excel in every arena: in the classroom, on the athletic field, in the performing arts, and through extracurricular activities. Our highly qualified employees care deeply about the success of students, and our parents and community/business partners offer tremendous support to our schools.

As we begin a new school year, we invite you to visit the district facebook/website (www.kountzeisd.org) and your child’s school website/facebook pages for the latest information, news and announcements. Parents who have questions or concerns during the year are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher or the school principal.

Rest assured our commitment to our vision, mission and core values will not change.  We will continue to base decisions on what is in the best interest of our students and invite you to join us in striving to help our students to be the best they can be.

Finally, we realize that we have a precious commodity, your child.  We are always striving to increase the safety of our students and staff.  We have developed an increased action and safety plan in conjunction with our local and county law enforcement.  It allows for tighter security at each campus and an increased presence of law enforcement.  We feel that through increased awareness we can prepare each campus with the tools to identify and prevent unwanted danger.  We are committed to educate your child in a safe and orderly environment.

I personally want to thank you for allowing us to provide the educational experience for your children.  If ever I can be of assistance, please feel free to call upon me. (409)- 246-3352 or jferguson@kountzeisd.org
