Welcome to the Kountze Intermediate Library!
I am looking forward to a great reading year! We use the internet-based Accelerated Reader program to build reading comprehension at KIS. Your child will be taking tests at school on the books that they have read. Each book has points assigned to it. The number of points that your child receives is based upon the grade that they made.
Each student is given a classroom reading goal for a grade every six weeks. Your child’s teacher will make you aware of the goal your child has every six weeks. The most important goal for all students is to average at least 85% on quizzes. This indicates that a student is reading with a high level of comprehension, which accelerates reading growth. Starting the 2nd six weeks, all students will have an average percent correct goal of 85% combined with their classroom goal for the library goal and rewards. If they make their library goal, they will receive a spirit tag at the end of the six weeks. If they make their library goal every six weeks the first semester, we will have a fun activity at school for them to participate in. If they make their library goal every six weeks the second semester, then they will get to go on a trip at the end of the year. I hope that you will encourage your student to read this school year!
