Coach Duane Joubert

My name is Duane Joubert, and I’m a husband and father of two sons. I’m a graduate of Hardin Jefferson High School in 1991. I went on to West Texas A&M University on an athletic football scholarship. I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology in 1996. After college I signed with the Calgary Stampeders and also with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. Upon completion of my football career, I decided to utilize my degree. Going into my 17th year, as an educator my first teaching and coaching job was at Hardin High School where I enjoyed coaching for eight years. Many successes at Hardin afforded me the opportunity to take over as Head Boys Basketball Coach of the mighty Kountze Lions. This is where within my first three years, I along with a great supporting coaching staff and diligent, hardworking young men earned two state titles. While working here, I‘ve been blessed not only with great basketball players, but awesome athletes that have won numerous district titles in tennis and cross country.  Student athletes have appeared in four state tennis tournaments within my ten years here at Kountze. I am a proud member of the Lion staff and currently am serving as our district Assistant Athletic Director, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach, and Head Boys and Girls Tennis Coach. I also serve as the Physical Education teacher for the 7th- 12th grade students for the 2013-2014 school year.

Coach James Harper

I am in my second season as defensive coordinator for the Kountze Lions in 2013 after a very productive 2012 campaign. In 2012, the Lion Defense continued to improve the entire season being one of the best defensives in District 10AA.  Under my tutelage, the Lions had eight selections to the All District team, in addition cornerback Darrion Harper accepted a scholarship to play at Bacone College and nose guard Isiah Owens accepted a scholarship to play at Post University. Prior to my arrival at Kountze, I spent over 10 years of coaching high school sports; four years as a special teams coordinator, two years as a defensive coordinator, two years as a girls head basketball coach, and three years as a boy’s head track coach. In 2011, when arriving to Kountze, I was the head girls powerlifting coach, where I had seven girls qualify for regionals and one girl qualify and finish fifth in state. Also, I was the head girls track coach of a team that had eight girls qualify for regionals.  Harper also was an assistant coach for the boys basketball and track teams. In 2012, I was the Head Boys Powerlifting and Track Coach.  We had nine boys qualify for regionals in powerlifting and two go on to state, where they finished third and fifth. We also had seventeen boys qualify for regionals and one qualify for the state meet, where he finished fifth.  In addition, Alex Orsot received a scholarship to run track at Ranger Junior College. I played high school football, basketball, and track as a Kountze High School Lion. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as a walk-on. Sadly, my collegiate career was cut short by injury. I did, later played Semi-Pro Football for the Southeast Texas Thunder as a linebacker and was also  the President of the Players Union. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. I have been married for seven years to Nicole Harper. Nicole is a Special Education Teacher at Ozen High School in Beaumont.  Together we have eight wonderful children.

Coach Shawn Hairgrove

I am entering my 23rd year of coaching and my first year as the Kountze High School Offensive Coordinator. My career has taken me from North Texas, to Central Texas, down to South Texas, and back again to Southeast Texas. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin in 1991, where I played football for the Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks reached the number one ranking in 1988 and played for the 1-AA National title in 1989 which I was fortunate enough to be a part of. I have four great children: Taylor (20), Wyatt (19), Tristan (17), and Abram (13). I will also be coaching powerlifting, track, and golf for the Lions.
